Official Obituary of
Betty Willis Dausi Dowd
June 20, 1935 - December 14, 2023

Mary Willis Dausi Dowd, affectionately known as Betty to her friends and family, passed away on December 14, 2023, at the age of 88. Born on June 20, 1935, in West Chester, PA, Betty was a beacon of love and friendship throughout her life, touching the hearts of many in her hometown and beyond. Her journey came to an unexpected close at Reading Hospital following a tragic car accident.

Betty's early life in West Chester laid the foundation for a lifetime of dedication to her community and her loved ones. She was a proud graduate of Kennett High School, and her academic achievements there were just the beginning of a life marked by hard work and service. Betty's career spanned many years as a business owner and later as an administrative assistant in the Social Services Department at Chester County Hospital. Her professional life was a testament to her boundless energy, determination, and commitment to helping others.

Family was the cornerstone of Betty's world. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nancy and Peggy, and her beloved husbands, John Dausi and George Dowd. Her legacy of love is carried on by her devoted daughters, Kim Downes and Lori Williams, and their husbands, Bill and Ken. Betty's brother, Tom Willis, and his wife, Judy, also survive her, along with a large and loving extended family. Her grandchildren, Michael, Amber, Stacey, Brooke, and the late Alicia Highfield, were the joys of her life. Betty (known to her grandchildren as Grammy) was a cherished great-grandmother to Michael Jr., Giovanni, Karleigh, Sophia, Alexis, Madison, Isabella, David, Makayla, Aubrey, Riley, and Louisa Quinn.

Her zest for life was evident in her many interests and laughter that filled a room. Betty relished spending quality time with her family and friends, and she was known for her love of shopping, collecting the work of local artists, reading, and winning nearly every game of Rummy. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was quick to share her bright smile with everyone she met. Betty's faith was a guiding force, and she demonstrated her faith in Jesus through loving those around her as directed by Galatians 5:6b, which states “All that matters is faith, expressed through love.” Betty’s warm smile and open heart made her a friend to all, and her kindness was a gift that she freely gave. Her presence in the community was a constant reminder of the power of compassion and the importance of service.

In honoring Betty Willis Dausi Dowd's remarkable life, we bid farewell to a woman who embodied the beauty of a life well-lived. She was a guiding light to her family, a steadfast friend, and a woman of strong faith. Her memory will be cherished, and her story will be told with fondness and admiration by those who carry on her legacy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6th, at Tel Hai Chapel, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Tel Hai Care Assurance Fund, a benevolent fund for residents, or the Tel Hai Good Samaritan Fund, an emergency assistance fund for Tel Hai team members, PO Box 190, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, PA 19344, or www.telhai.org/giving/give-online.
